Just before Christmas I popped in to see my mate Dave. Dave’s not a car fan and doesn`t like driving very much, and moans that modern cars are too big to manoeuvre in tight spots. I keep telling him that modern cars are built with economy and safety as high priorities.<\/p>\n

He reckons the best car he ever owned was a 1980 Vauxhall Chevette. He reckoned it was the last car he owned that would fit into\u00a0 his garage! (like the one in the picture below)<\/p>\n

Cars have increased in size for safety reasons.<\/h4>\n

So, I asked, why don`t you sell your Ford Focus, and buy a Chevette? We used the free valuation<\/a> tool on sell my cars.co.uk only to discover (which I already knew) that the Chevette is now a minor classic and his ageing Focus wouldn’t be enough for even a rusty one. A shame really as it was a good car.<\/p>\n

We chatted for a while about the pros and cons of late 20th century cars and he reluctantly agreed that things had moved on and modern cars are a more practical proposition for today’s traffic environment.<\/p>\n

“Still want a Chevette I asked?” – “Yes, but no” – on pressing the matter further it seems that Dave wouldn’t venture out of his drive without modern economy and safety features. It’s those crumple zones that make even a small family car too big to fit into his drive.<\/p>\n

As traffic has increased cars have had to improve to comply with modern conditions.<\/h4>\n

Ah! the good old days….<\/p>\n

Seriously though.<\/p>\n

Why suffer when compact cars will easily fit into tight spaces, and have parking aids built in.<\/p>\n
