“Green” motoring. Electric versus petrol cars.
No! – not green coloured cars but low/zero emission models. Do you choose electric or low emission petrol.
Getting ready for 2050
Have you heard of the phrase ‘early adopters’? Essentially it refers to consumers that like to ‘get on board’ with the latest tech at the earliest opportunity.
One thing is for sure, investing a few hundred pounds for the latest PC or Smart Phone is very different to ‘investing’ many thousands in a ‘new technology’ car – and we’re talking pure EV’s here.
Make no mistake, EV’s are the future, the manufacturers are investing billions into the technology and the race is on to brag about which manufacturers or even nations are the greenest.
This is all well and good, but early adopters of all electric vehicles are effectively road testing the technology, and paying for the privilege. (and it’s still too early in the technology cycle to find out just how green they actually are)
Second hand EV prices are currently quite low relative to their new price, this is reflected in the demand for pre-owned EV’s. Hybrids fare better.
Green motoring is unaffordable for many right now.
Feeling greener than your neighbours and work colleagues might make you feel virtuous but it can be an expensive business. The fact is that modern petrol cars are incredibly fuel efficient, their environmental impacts are well known, but it’s still way too early to write the report on the real environmental impact of EV’s.
As always though, the consumer is king, and perfectly free to exercise their freedom of choice. We fully respect that.
